Chris Stapleton enlists Miranda Lambert for an enchanting rendition of his 2020 single “Maggie Song.”
On Sunday night (April 18) at this year’s ACM Awards, Chris Stapleton enlisted Miranda Lambert for an enchanting rendition of his 2020 single “Maggie’s Song.”
Backed by Lambert, Stapleton paid tribute to his late family pup, who he encouraged to “run wild” on the song’s emotional chorus. “Run, Maggie run/ With the heart of a rebel child/ Oh, run, Maggie run/ Be just as free as you are wild,” he sang.
Stapleton, with the help of Lambert, also sprinkled a dash of hope when he crooned these hopeful lyrics: “I can tell you right now/ That a dog has a soul… I never knew me a better dog/ I guess I never will.”
Last year, Stapleton penned his ode to Maggie — a lab-terrier mutt — on his previous album, Starting Over. In an interview with The Tennessean, he reflected on the song’s emotive lyrics. “Every word and every stitch of that song is real things,” he said. “She was a member of the family, and she deserved a song.”
The ACM Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by MRC. MRC and Penske Media are co-parent companies of Billboard.
